| P2.6M WORTH OF ASSISTANCE RELEASED FOR VICTIMS OF HEAVY RAINS |

Some P2.6 million worth of assistance from the combined resources of the DSWD, concerned local government units, non-government organizations, and other government agencies were released to families affected by continuous heavy rains, floodings and landslides in Regions V, VIII, X, XI and CARAGA. The assistance is composed of family packs, and food and non-food items. “The DSWD is exerting all efforts to ensure that all affected families will be given appropriate assistance," Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman said. Some 2,000 family packs worth P328,000 and 1,000 pieces blankets amounting to P10,000 were released to DSWD Field Office V from the the DSWD-National Resource Operations Center on December 31, 2010 as additional support for the flood-affected municipalities in the province of Albay.According to Secretary Soliman, the affected provinces are: Albay in Region V; Southern Leyte in Region VIII; Lanao del Norte in Region X; Compostela Valley in Region XI; and Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur in CARAGA. As of 6:00 a.m., today (January 5), some 26,864 families with 119,970 persons have been affected from the five (5) regions. On the other hand, some 2,690 families continue to be served outside evacuation centers. Fifty-eight houses were damaged of which 16 were totally destroyed while 42 were partially damaged. The Quick Response Teams and Social Welfare and Development Teams in concerned DSWD field offices remain activated to assist the local government units in data generation, relief distribution, and management of evacuation centers. ### (Social Marketing service) 05 January 2011 |
