Youth Survivors of Sendong maintained cleanlines in the evacuation center. The Department of Social Welfare and Development has enrolled youngsters in the Cash for Work program to help in the cleanliness and maintenance of evacuation centers, such as this one in Xavier Heights, Upper Balulang, Cagayan de Oro City. According to the DSWD, the youth-beneficiaries are paid P215 per day for five days.

The Cash for Work program is the provision of cash in exchange for rendering community service, such as maintaining cleanliness of evacuation centers and repair of damaged community facilities during disasters.

Evacuees were organized into committees such as Food and Non-Food, Shelter; Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH); Protection, Psychosocial and Grievance; Health and Nutrition; and Sports Recreation and Peace and Order to put order in the evacuation center, and “to make them feel useful.” ### (DSWD-Social Marketing Service) January 22, 2012
