DSWD SENDS MORE DONATIONS FOR NEGROS ORIENTAL QUAKE VICTIMS |

Today, The Department of Social Welfare and Development sent to Dumaguete City approximately 9.13 million rubbles or P12.9 million worth of relief goods from the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defense, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters (EMERCOM of Russia) for the earthquake victims.
The relief goods which consisted of 450 boxes of canned meat, 150 boxes canned fish, 100 sacks sugar (50 kilos/sack) tents were transported this morning via Philippines Air Force (PAF) C130 in coordination with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD). These are in addition to the Russian-donated 78 pieces of wireframe tents and 1,500 blankets which were initially sent to Dumaguete yesterday, February 12.
Likewise, some 2,580 family food packs, 195 pieces water jugs and 1,000 bottles of mineral water from DSWD’s standby relief supplies were also delivered to Dumaguete City today.
Social Welfare and Development Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the Russian government for their generous assistance to the quake victims.
“We are deeply grateful for the generosity of countries, such as Russia, for their overwhelming support to the victims of the Negros Oriental killer quake. During disasters such as this, we derive our strength from the global community which never fails to come to our aid,” Secretary Soliman stated.
As of February 13, 6:00 a.m., a total of P26.3 million worth of relief assistance has been provided by the DSWD (P17 million), concerned LGUs (P6.9 million) and other NGOs and GOs (P2.4 million) to the affected families. ### (DSWD-Social Marketing Service) February 13, 2012
