The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues its provision of assistance to locally stranded individuals (LSIs) in Metro Manila.

On June 17, through the DSWD Field Office National Capital Region (FO-NCR), the Department provided financial assistance, under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program, to approximately 500 LSIs in Pier 4, North Port, Manila.

Most of the LSIs who received assistance were stranded workers, students, and Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who were not able to return to their provinces due to the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine.

Meanwhile, in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) – Philippine Army, DSWD FO-NCR also extended financial aid to LSIs temporarily staying in the Wellness Center, AFP Gymnasium, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on June 19.

The FO also went to the Coast Guard Gymnasium, Eva Macapagal Port Area in Manila to distribute Family Food Packs (FFPs), sleeping kits, and sanitation kits for OFWs stranded in Pier 15, South Port. The activity was spearheaded by Regional Director Vicente Gregorio B. Tomas, in coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

Earlier, the Department also provided financial assistance and non-food items to LSIs staying at the Villamor Airbase Elementary School and at the Philippine State College of Aeronautics in Pasay City.

DSWD will continue to coordinate with local government units and concerned agencies to determine and provide appropriate interventions and assistance to LSIs in Metro Manila. ###
