The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has reached out to the survivors and bereaved families of those who perished of the landslide incident that happened in the Municipality of Natonin, Mountain Province during the height of Typhoon Rosita.

“Our personnel from Field Office (FO) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) have conducted interviews and assessment of the survivors of the landslide as well as the bereaved families of those who died due to the incident for the provision of appropriate assistance and intervention,” DSWD Secretary Rolando Bautista said.

The Secretary said the DSWD will provide burial assistance to the bereaved families to cover their funeral expenses. The Department will also extend a financial assistance of P5,000 to each of the families.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families of the landslide incident. We at the DSWD will do our best to assist them in their needs during this very difficult time,” Sec. Bautista said.

Aside from attending to the needs of families affected by the landslide, FO CAR also continues to monitor the status of the evacuation centers (ECs) that are still open in the province.

To ensure that there will be enough food for the evacuees, the FO CAR has sent 3,000 family food packs (FFPs) to Natonin; 1,000 FFPs to the Municipality of Paracelis; and additional 700 food packs to Barangay Anonat in Paracelis.

FO CAR has provided a total of 22,010 family food packs to various municipalities in the region to help the local government units (LGUs) respond to the needs of their constituents. Of this number, 4,170 FFPs were earlier provided to Benguet Province; 5,850 to Ifugao; 1,970 to Mountain Province; and 5,000 FFPs each to the provinces of Abra and Kalinga.

“There are affected areas that are difficult to reach as they were isolated due to the landslide, but with the help of our partners, relief assistance for these areas are already on their way,” Sec. Bautista said.

As of 12 noon today, there are still 135 families or 466 individuals who are staying in 15 evacuation centers in Regions II, VIII, and CAR due to ‘Rosita’. The bulk of the open ECs are in CAR with 9 evacuation centers, where some 111 families or 370 persons are currently taking refuge.

The DSWD has so far provided a total of P5,693,964.25 worth of assistance to the affected families. ###
