DSWD calls for volunteers to boost food pack production amid Mayon unrest

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is encouraging the public to volunteer in the production of family food packs (FFPs) to ensure sufficient food supply for families affected by Mayon Volcano’s heightened restiveness.

Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD’s Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) said the call for volunteers seeks to add manpower at the Luzon Disaster Resource Center (LDRC) in Pasay City, one of the Department’s major repacking hubs.

Secretary Dumlao, who is also the DSWD spokesperson, said on Thursday (January 8).

The DSWD’s National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau (NRLMB) has earlier called for additional volunteers to help in the production of FFPs at the LDRC in Pasay City.

“This call for volunteers is part of our proactive response to the heightened activity and the raising to Alert Level 3 status of Mayon Volcano, ensuring that the DSWD is ready to support affected communities,” the DSWD spokesperson said.

The Department has been conducting relief operations, including the distribution of FFPs, ready-to-eat food (RTEF) boxes, and non-food items (NFIs) to residents currently sheltered in evacuation centers in Albay province.

Secretary Dumlao pointed out.

Asst. Secretary Dumlao emphasized that volunteers’ support is crucial as the government prepares for potential escalation of essential needs.

The volunteers, according to the DRMG official, will assist in the repacking and preparation of FFPs as part of the Department’s proactive disaster preparedness measures.

“Before deployment, there will be an orientation to ensure the safety of volunteers around the repacking center,” the DSWD spokesperson said.

Volunteers may render service from Monday to Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the LDRC located near the Airport Police and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP). Interested individuals may register through the official DSWD volunteer form link: https://forms.gle/MV7c6294ZNMrcxgP6.
