DSWD calls on public to join observance of Adoption and Alternative Child Care Week

As the lead agency in promoting the protection and rights of children, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is urging the public to participate in the observance of the Adoption and Alternative Child Care Week (AACCW) from June 8 to 14.

“The AACCW is not just a celebration, but a profound reminder for us that a family does not begin with shared blood, but with shared love. It is built through a greater understanding and unwavering commitment that every child deserves the warmth of a home where they receive protection, care, and unconditional love,” Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao, the DSWD spokesperson, said on Monday (June 8).

The DSWD spokesperson added that many neglected, abandoned, surrendered and orphaned children are still waiting for their forever homes.

“We encourage more Filipinos to open their hearts and consider the life-changing gift of adoption. By welcoming a child into a loving family, we do more than change one life – we create brighter futures, stronger communities, and a more compassionate society,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao pointed out.

Republic Act (RA) 11642 or the “Domestic Administrative Adoption and Alternative Child Care Act” mandates the annual observance of the AACCW every second week of June.

The celebration is dedicated to promoting legal adoption and alternative childcare to benefit Filipino children awaiting permanent placement in loving homes.

With the theme, “Love Makes a Family,” the observance is led by the National Authority for Child Care (NACC), a quasi-judicial agency attached to DSWD.

In support of the celebration, the DSWD and the NACC continue to hold regional consultations in preparation for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) High Level Meeting on Strengthening Alternative Family-Based Care Systems slated in September.

The regional consultations aims to strengthen programs, services, and interventions to strengthen family ties to avert child separation from their primary caregivers; expanding adoption and foster care systems; family reunification and transitioning children in alternative care options to deinstitutionalize them from residential care facilities; and, promoting cross-border collaboration for child protection.

The discussions from the activity will generate inputs towards developing a National Action Plan on Enhancing Alternative Family-Based Care Systems. (AKDL)

The DSWD is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. The DSWD only has access to/collect information that you voluntarily give us via the modules of this website or other direct contact from you. All of the provisions in the Data Privacy Act will be observed specifically on the management of personally identifiable information.

Information collected may be used as a basis for client response regarding services or intervention that may be provided by the DSWD. Information will not be shared with any third party outside of the Government, other than as necessary to fulfill the requested services of a client. The DSWD, however, reserves the right to request the applicants to submit the hardcopy of documentary requirements in order to verify the authenticity of the information.

Unless otherwise provided, the DSWD or any of its authorized personnel may contact the client via email or SMS in the future for the purpose of status updates with regard to the transaction/service request, changes to this privacy policy, or other information reasonably necessary to effect the social service mandate of the DSWD.

An individual has the right to ask for a copy of any personal information held by the DSWD about him or her; as well as the right to ask for corrections should any information be inaccurate or erroneous. The DSWD takes precautions to protect information. Upon submission of sensitive information via the website, information is protected both online and offline. Wherever the Department collects sensitive information (such as passport and Birth Certificates), that information is encrypted and transmitted to the DSWD in a secure manner. This may be verified by looking for a lock icon in the address bar and looking for "https" at the beginning of the address of the web page. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, certificate printing or customer service) are granted access to personally identifiable information. The computers/servers, where personally identifiable information is stored, are kept in a secure environment.
