DSWD chief vows to provide appropriate aid to those affected by the collapsed building in Angeles City

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian on Monday (May 25) went to Barangay Balibago in Angeles City, Pampanga to monitor DSWD’s ongoing disaster response and to assess the situation of the residents affected by a collapsed construction building.

According to reports, approximately 30 people were trapped under the rubbles as the building collapsed early Sunday (May 24) morning.

During his visit, Secretary Gatchalian led the distribution of ready-to-eat food (RTEF) and cash aid to the victims as he vowed to provide transportation fare under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) for stranded individuals.

The local government of Angeles City is currently working with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) to rescue the remaining construction workers from the rubble.

Secretary Gatchalian was joined by Undersecretary for Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) Diane Rose Cajipe, DSWD-Field Office (FO) 3 Regional Director (RD) Venus Rebuldela, Asst. Regional Director for Operations (ARDO) Armont Pecina, and Angeles City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin II. (KI)
