DSWD extends aid to family of minor-victim involved in fatal stabbing incident in Las Piñas High School

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its Field Office (FO) – National Capital Region (NCR), has extended assistance to the family of a 13-year-old student who was stabbed by a 14-year-old in Las Piñas City last July 31.

“Nakikiramay ang buong pamunuan ng DSWD sa pamilya ng estudyante na nasawi sa pananaksak sa Las Piñas National High School. Agad na nagkaloob ng psychosocial intervention at paunang financial assistance ang ahensya sa naulilang pamilya ng biktima,” Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao, the DSWD spokesperson, said on Sunday (August 2).

The DSWD-NCR provided cash assistance worth Php20,000 and two boxes of family food packs (FFPs) to the victim’s relatives, while the City Government of Las Piñas provided burial assistance.

Based on police reports, the minor perpetrator and the victim had a disagreement in school which aggravated into a stabbing attack.

A “balisong” which was hidden inside a tumbler or a flask was allegedly used in the incident.

The DSWD urged the public to exercise prudence and responsibility when sharing information on cases involving children in conflict with the law (CICL).

“Hinihikayat namin ang publiko na maging responsable at iwasan ang pagpapalaganap ng anumang unverified information sa social media tungkol sa mga kaso ng mga CICL. Ang pag-post ng unverified information at sensitive content sa ganitong mga kaso ay maaari lamang magdulot ng karagdagang trauma sa mga biktima at kanilang mga pamilya, o makaimpluwensya sa isinasagawang imbestigasyon ng mga awtoridad,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao pointed out.

While investigations are ongoing, the DSWD and its attached agency, the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC) will continue monitoring the case and ensure that appropriate protocols on handling CICL are in place.

“Mananatiling nakatutok ang DSWD sa kaso na ito at sisiguradihin namin na mahigpit na susundin ang mga legal at administratibong proseso sa paghawak ng mga kaso na may kinalaman sa mga CICL,” the DSWD spokesperson said. (AKDL)

The DSWD is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. The DSWD only has access to/collect information that you voluntarily give us via the modules of this website or other direct contact from you. Information collected may be used as a basis for client response regarding services or intervention that may be provided by the DSWD. The DSWD takes precautions to protect information. Upon submission of sensitive information via the website, information is protected both online and offline. Wherever the Department collects sensitive information (such as passport and Birth Certificates), that information is encrypted and transmitted to the DSWD in a secure manner. This may be verified by looking for a lock icon in the address bar and looking for "https" at the beginning of the address of the web page. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, certificate printing or customer service) are granted access to personally identifiable information. The computers/servers, where personally identifiable information is stored, are kept in a secure environment.
