The Department of Welfare and Development (DSWD) hailed and expressed its admiration for thirty-five residents of Barangay Gambang in Bakun, Benguet who waived their slots as recipients of the emergency cash subsidy under the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) of the government to make way for other qualified families.

The individuals’ families were initially targeted as SAP beneficiaries, but they voluntarily waived their slots prior to validation so that other families in need in their communities will be accommodated in the program.

Some 2,439 families in the town of Bakun are expected to receive the emergency cash subsidy, while the total number of SAP recipients in the Benguet Province number to 74,369.

Beneficiaries in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) will receive P5,500 SAP cash subsidy, based on the minimum wage rate in the region.

SAP, which is being spearheaded by the DSWD, provides P5,000 to 8,000 cash subsidy, based on regional minimum wage rate, to 18 million low income families nationwide assessed to be most affected by the imposition of community quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic given their existing life situations or circumstances. ###
