DSWD partners with DOLE for job facilitation of Walang Gutom Program beneficiaries

In its continuing efforts to achieve positive behavioral change among beneficiaries of the Walang Gutom Program (WGP), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reinforced its partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to provide job facilitation support to WGP household beneficiaries.

During the Labor Day Job Fair last May 1, WGP beneficiaries were given the opportunity to participate in the nationwide employment fair, with four individuals being hired on the spot.

“Tayo po ay nakilahok sa Labor Day Job Fair ng DOLE. Isa po itong pamamaraan ng DSWD upang tulungan ang ating mga benepisyaryo na magkaroon ng hanapbuhay. Sa WGP, binibigyan natin ng buwanang food commodities ang benepisyaryo para tulungan sila sa pang-araw-araw nilang pagkain,” said Undersecretary Edu Punay of the DSWD’s Innovations and Program Development Group (IPDG), who also serves as the concurrent National Program Director of WGP.

Under the WGP, beneficiaries are required to attend Kalusugan, Kakayahan, at Kabuhayan (3K) Sessions, previously called Nutrition Education Sessions (NES) and Productivity Enhancement Sessions (PES).

The 3K sessions aim to strengthen the capacities of beneficiaries by promoting practical skills and livelihood-related knowledge and opportunities in coordination with partner agencies such as the DOLE and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Under the WGP, beneficiaries are required to attend Kalusugan, Kakayahan, at Kabuhayan (3K) Sessions, previously called Nutrition Education Sessions (NES) and Productivity Enhancement Sessions (PES).

Among the beneficiaries who secured a job position was 43-year-old Jelina Moñeva from Barangay Cullat in Daraga, Albay. Jelina secured a Massage Therapist position offered by the Tanvera Corporation.

In Caraga, Cherry Lubon from Barangay Bugabos in Butuan City was hired by Davao Manpower as a Promodiser at the Gaisano Malls.

From Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), Mispah Quiriones and Abujarren Akmad were hired on the spot as Production Workers by Permex Producer and Exporter Corporation.

“Ang mga benepisyaryo pong ito ay patunay na sa tulong ng ating gobyerno, kasama ng determinasyon at pagsusumikap, maaaring makaahon ang isang pamilya sa kahirapan,” Undersecretary Punay said.

The DSWD will continue to engage in partnerships and collaborations as part of its commitment to help the WGP beneficiaries attain an improved quality of life.

Launched in 2023 and institutionalized in 2024 by virtue of Executive Order (EO) No. 44, the WGP is the flagship anti-hunger program of the Philippine government, which is aligned with the goal of President Marcos to address food insecurity in the country. (YADP)
