The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) honored the achievements of social work-centered agencies and organizations at the 2024 Awarding Ceremony for Outstanding Social Work Agencies (SWAs) and Auxiliary Social Welfare and Development Agencies (SWDAs) on Thursday (November 28).

Undersecretary Denise Florence Bernos-Bragas of the DSWD’s Standards and Capacity Building Group (SCBG) commended the SWAs and SWDAs for their exceptional services to society’s most vulnerable populations.

“Treading the field of social work and making a difference in other people’s lives is no easy task. Yet, you are all here because you have been exemplary in upholding innovative and best practices as you look after the welfare of people who need your guidance most,” Undersecretary Bragas said in her keynote address during the ceremony held at the Madison 101 Hotel in Quezon City.

The annual search and awarding of outstanding SWAs and SWDAs is an initiative of the DSWD’s Standards Bureau (SB). The project aims to institutionalize and promote a culture of excellence in social welfare and development by recognizing and providing incentives to partner implementers.

This year, six outstanding SWAs and three outstanding Auxiliary SWDAs from different regions received plaques and cash incentives worth Php50,000 each.

The awardees for the Outstanding SWAs were the Childhope Philippines Foundation, Inc.; Unbound Zamboanga Project Foundation, Inc.; Kasanag Daughters Foundation, Inc.; Asilo De Molo, Inc.; Mahintana Foundation, Inc.; and Pag-Asa Social Center Foundation, Inc.

The Open Heart Foundation Worldwide, Inc., Living New Philippines, and Negrense Volunteers for Change Foundation, Inc. were hailed as the Outstanding Auxiliary SWDAs.

A SWA is either a public or private SWDA that directly engages in social welfare and development programs and services and could be center-based and/or community-based using social work interventions.

An Auxiliary SWDA is a non-stock, non-profit organization or association, implementing or intending to implement either directly or indirectly social welfare and development programs and services in the Philippines.

Undersecretary Bragas affirmed that with the help of these agencies and organizations, the DSWD is committed to ensuring that people in need are met with comprehensive and uncompromising services and initiatives.

“May this awarding ceremony reaffirm our shared purpose, the core of our practice and further inspire us to continue raising the standard in the field that we’re in,” Undersecretary Bragas said.

SCBG Assistant Secretary Janet Armas and SB Director Megan Therese Manahan joined Undersecretary Bragas in the awarding ceremony. # (LSJ)
