DSWD strengthens peace-building efforts in Davao conflict-affected communities through PAMANA program

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to strengthen its peace-building and community development efforts in conflict-affected areas in Mindanao by providing livelihood assistance under the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) program.

Nine PAMANA Livelihood Associations (PLPAs) from Davao City and Boston, Davao Oriental, received a total of Php2.7 million in seed capital grants last June 4, with each association getting Php300,000 to support their community-based livelihood initiatives.

The beneficiary associations include the Kauban sa Kalinaw ug Kalambuan from Boston, Davao Oriental; and Muslim Community Development, Davao United Bangsamoro, Davao City Bangsamoro, Sirawan Kagan, Bangsamoro Community Development, Davao Muslim Kagan, Sirawan Bangsamoro Women’s, and Sirawan Women’s Boracay Fisherfolk PLPA from Davao City.

Hayria Obid, President of the Sirawan Women’s Boracay Fisherfolk PLPA, expressed gratitude to the Marcos government for the assistance provided to their association.

“On behalf of the nine associations, we thank you for the starting capital you gave us. This is a big help to the associations as well as our members’ families,” Obid said.

DSWD spokesperson Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao said the Department continues to strengthen interventions that empower communities and provide vulnerable sectors with opportunities to improve their lives through sustainable livelihoods.

“Sa pamamagitan ng PAMANA program, patuloy na tinutulungan ng DSWD ang mga komunidad na naapektuhan ng kaguluhan at kahirapan sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng oportunidad na magkaroon sila ng matatag at sustenableng kabuhayan,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao said on Monday (June 8).

The DSWD spokesperson emphasized that livelihood interventions are crucial components of long-term peacebuilding efforts in vulnerable communities.

“Hindi lamang usapin ng seguridad ang peace-building. Mahalaga rin na mabigyan natin ng pagkakataon ang mga komunidad na magkaroon ng disenteng kabuhayan, matatag na pinagkakakitaan, at mga programang mag-aangat sa kanilang kalidad ng pamumuhay at magbabalik ng dignidad sa mga pamilyang naapektuhan ng sigalot,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao pointed out.

The DSWD spokesperson also explained that the PAMANA program supports the whole-of-government approach of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in promoting inclusive growth and lasting peace in underserved areas.

“Alinsunod sa direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., nananatiling nakatuon ang DSWD sa pagpapalawak ng mga programang nagsusulong ng social protection, economic inclusion, at community empowerment lalo na sa mga geographically isolated at conflict-affected areas,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao said.

The PAMANA program is one of the Department’s flagship peace and development initiatives aimed at transforming conflict-affected and vulnerable communities through livelihood support, social protection, and community-driven interventions. (CC)

The DSWD is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. The DSWD only has access to/collect information that you voluntarily give us via the modules of this website or other direct contact from you. Information collected may be used as a basis for client response regarding services or intervention that may be provided by the DSWD. The DSWD takes precautions to protect information. Upon submission of sensitive information via the website, information is protected both online and offline. Wherever the Department collects sensitive information (such as passport and Birth Certificates), that information is encrypted and transmitted to the DSWD in a secure manner. This may be verified by looking for a lock icon in the address bar and looking for "https" at the beginning of the address of the web page. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, certificate printing or customer service) are granted access to personally identifiable information. The computers/servers, where personally identifiable information is stored, are kept in a secure environment.
