The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), as the lead agency protecting the rights of children, supports the observance of the 1st Adoption and Alternative Child Care Week (AACCW) celebration on June 9 and 10, 2022.

As mandated by Republic Act (RA) 11642 or the “Domestic Administrative Adoption and Alternative Child Care Act,” the second week of June of every year shall be designated for the observance of the AACCW which advocates and promotes legal adoption and alternative child care for Filipino children. It is chaired by the National Authority for Child Care (NACC), an attached agency of the DSWD.

For this year, the theme of the celebration is “Journeying Together: Discovering the New Law and Celebrating Legal Adoption.” It will highlight the salient provisions of RA 11642, including the responsibilities of the NACC and the DSWD in upholding the best interest of abandoned, neglected, orphaned, and surrendered Filipino children.

The celebration will feature a two-day Adoption and Alternative Child Care Conference which will be attended by representatives of child-caring and child-placement agencies, adoptive families, adopted children, and legal adoption advocates.

The DSWD pledges to continue to support and advocate for the best interest of Filipino children through its existing programs and services on alternative child care. ###
