DSWD to strengthen Pag-abot Program in Central Visayas with new processing center

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is set to further strengthen social protection services in Central Visayas through the ongoing construction of the Pag-abot Program’s processing center in Mandaue City in Cebu province.

The new facility is envisioned to serve as a key component to a faster and more responsive interventions for families and individuals in street situations (FISS), requiring immediate assistance through the Pag-abot Program.

To date, the Pag-abot program has already provided assistance to numerous families nationwide, particularly those in vulnerable and at-risk situations with a total of 11,451 reached-out individuals who were safely taken off the streets since the program started in 2023.

Undersecretary Edu Punay of the DSWD’s Innovations and Program Development Group (IPDG) visited the project site to personally inspect the progress of the construction, together with DSWD Social Technology Bureau (STB) Asst. Bureau Director Marilyn Moral and Field Office (FO) 7 – Central Visayas Regional Director (RD) Shalaine Marie Lucero.

The IPDG undersecretary underscored the Department’s commitment to ensuring that the facility will support efficient service delivery and provide a safe, organized, and dignified space for the FISS in need of care and protection.

Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao, the DSWD spokesperson, said the Pag-abot processing center is designed to enhance the DSWD’s capacity to respond swiftly to urgent cases, while ensuring that affected families receive the appropriate support in a well-managed environment– the project reflects the broader goal of bringing government services closer to the vulnerable sectors across the country.

“Itong Pag-abot program ay marami nang natulungan na mga pamilya at indibidwal. Kapag operational na ang processing center, mas lalaki pa ang reach ng programa at mas marami pang beneficiaries ang makikinabang sa mas mabilis at mas maayos na serbisyo, nakakatuwa ito,” the DSWD spokesperson said.

With the establishment of the Processing Center, the DSWD expects to further expand the program coverage, improve its response time, and strengthen the delivery of compassionate and effective social services to communities in need.

“Malaking hakbang ang pagtatayo ng Pag-abot Processing Center dahil mas mapapabilis ang proseso ng pagtulong sa mga pamilyang nangangailangan. Mas magiging maayos ang flow ng services at mas sigurado ang protection na maibibigay sa bawat pamilya,” Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao pointed out.

The Pag-abot Program, which was started by the DSWD in 2023, was institutionalized through Executive Order (EO) No. 52 in January 2024.

The DSWD provides interventions to help the FISS return to their homes or places of origin and to their communities through the program. (KI)
