The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), as Vice Chairperson for the Disaster Response of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), welcomes the result of the latest Pulse Asia Ulat ng Bayan Nationwide Survey on Important National Concerns and Performance Rating of the National Administration on Selected Issues indicating the highest approval rating of 78% on the government’s response to the needs of calamity-hit areas.

The nationwide survey was conducted from September 17 to 21, 2022 using face-to-face interviews of all member-agencies. It was based on the response of 1,200 participants from 18 years old and above.

The DSWD attributed the high approval rating from the consistent on-the-ground coordination of local government units (LGUs), which are the first responders, and national government agencies (NGAs) in responding to disasters. In addition, in coordination, with the LGUs and other member-agencies of the NDRRMC, the DSWD strategically prepositioned food and non-food items in typhoon and flood-prone areas to ensure that there are sufficient relief resources before a disaster strikes.

The Department emphasized that responding to disasters and helping affected families are part of the whole-of-government approach implemented by the current administration.

To sustain this positive rating, the DSWD pledges to continue to strengthen its partnerships with LGUs, NGAs, international agencies, and the private sector to improve its disaster response systems and mechanisms by improving the Department’s logistical capabilities and strengthening its Technical Assistance and Resource Augmentation role. ###
