DSWD's Central Visayas Field Office readies relief aid amid flooding in Mandaue City

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office (FO) 7 – Central Visayas is actively monitoring the situation in Mandaue City, Cebu after heavy rainfall caused by the trough of a Low Pressure Area (LPA) displaced 55 families or 220 individuals in Barangay Ibabao-Estancia on Thursday (July 30)

The Cebu-based regional office maintains continuous coordination with the local government unit (LGU) of Mandaue City and the City Social Welfare Services Office (CSWSO) to assess the condition of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and validate their ground needs.

“Sa ngayon po, displaced families were sheltered at the Ibabao-Estancia Gym kung saan patuloy po natin silang mino-monitor. Ang DSWD Field Office naman po natin ay on standby just in case local government units need augmentation support,” Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD’s Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) said on Saturday (August 1).

Based on the latest report, the DSWD FO 7 currently has 104,027 family food packs (FFPs) and 14,953 food and non-food items (FNIs) prepositioned in regional logistics hubs for immediate distribution upon request by the LGU.

Ongoing disaster monitoring and response operations follow the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to ensure immediate support for families affected by natural calamities.

“Alinsunod po sa utos ng ating Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sinisiguro po natin na timely ang support na ibinibigay natin sa mga kababayang nangangailangan. Patuloy rin pong nakatutok ang ating Departamento sa bawat lugar na nakakaranas at makakaranas ng disaster kaya siniguro rin po natin na kumportable ang paglagi ng mga apektadong pamilya sa loob ng evacuation center sa pamamagitan ng pagtatayo ng mga modular tents,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao, who also serves as DSWD spokesperson, pointed out.

Local response efforts saw the deployment of 20 modular tents for affected families and the provision of medical assistance at evacuation centers while floodwaters continue to recede across affected communities.

The DSWD spokesperson assured the public that the Department has sufficient stockpiles placed in warehouses nationwide.

“Wag po tayong mag-alala dahil kagaya po ng palagi naming sinasabi, handa po ang DSWD, enough po and ating prepositioned goods, at araw-araw nire-replenish po natin kung ano man ang nababawas sa ating stockpiles,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao said. (KI)
