DSWD’s humanitarian aid for Mindanao quake-hit communities nears Php1B

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has disbursed more than Php983 million in humanitarian assistance to aid communities affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Maasim, Sarangani last June 8.

Following the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to ensure continuous support for all affected families, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian flew to General Santos City and Sarangani province on Tuesday (July 7) to monitor the distribution of the Department’s assistance for the early recovery of the victims.

“They may not be in the headlines anymore, but the President’s directive is very clear: help till the earthquake victims get back on their feet. Flew into GenSan City and Sarangani to monitor distribution of sustained financial assistance for early recovery victims,” Secretary Gatchalian said in his social media post on Tuesday (July 7).

Based on the Monday (July 8) report of the DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring, Information, and Communication (DROMIC), some1,655,313 individuals or 391,871 families were affected by the June 8 tremor in 650 barangays across Regions 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), 11 (Davao Region), 12 (SOCCSKARGEN), and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

To ensure the DSWD’s sustained response, relief resources worth Php4.97 billion are available for immediate distribution for those in need. This include Php643.7 million in Quick Response Funds (QRF) and Php4.3 million worth of food and non-food items (NFIs).

As part of the continuous recovery interventions, Secretary Gatchalian oversaw the emergency cash transfer (ECT) payout by the DSWD Field Office (FO) 12 – SOCCSKSARGEN held at the Oval Plaza in General Santos City for affected workers who lost their livelihoods due to the earthquake.

The DSWD chief also took the time to meet with local chief executives (LCEs) to identify other essential long-term interventions for the severely affected communities.

“Sat down with Mayor Yap of Glan town in Sarangani to discuss how else the National Government can help us in the recovery of his constituents,” Secretary Gatchalian said in his FB post. (KI)

The DSWD is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. The DSWD only has access to/collect information that you voluntarily give us via the modules of this website or other direct contact from you. Information collected may be used as a basis for client response regarding services or intervention that may be provided by the DSWD. Information will not be shared with any third party outside of the Government, other than as necessary to fulfill the requested services of a client. The DSWD takes precautions to protect information. Upon submission of sensitive information via the website, information is protected both online and offline. Wherever the Department collects sensitive information (such as passport and Birth Certificates), that information is encrypted and transmitted to the DSWD in a secure manner. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, certificate printing or customer service) are granted access to personally identifiable information. The computers/servers, where personally identifiable information is stored, are kept in a secure environment.
