DSWD’s livelihood program grants Php2.08M seed capital to grassroots group in Capiz
The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) has turned over Php2.08 million seed capital fund to assist seven livelihood associations in Jamindan, Capiz in their chosen livelihood start-up.
“The DSWD continues to support the Marcos Administration’s initiatives to enhance the socio-economic condition of the vulnerable, disadvantaged, and marginalized groups. One of the efforts being done by the Department is through the provision of livelihood grants to help Sustainable Livelihood Program Associations (SLPAs) to achieve their respective businesses or enterprises,” Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao, the DSWD’s spokesperson, said on Friday (January 9).
According to Asst. Secretary Dumlao, six out of the seven SLPAs were under the DSWD’s PAyapa at MAsaganang PamayaNAn (PAMANA) program, a peace-building initiative that provides appropriate programs and interventions in conflict-affected and vulnerable areas.
Each of the six PAMANA SLPAs received Php300,000. They were the Agbun-od PAMANA-SLP Association, Agloloway PAMANA-SLP Association, Jaena Sur PAMANA-SLP Association, Jaena Norte PAMANA-SLP Association, San Juan PAMANA-SLP Association, and the Ganzon PAMANA-SLP Association.
The Jaebat SLP Association, a regular SLPA, on the other hand, received Php280,000 to kick-start their business.
“The livelihood fund serves as start-up capital that can be used by the local entrepreneurs to purchase raw materials, tools, or any equipment necessary in developing their respective livelihood ventures and businesses,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao pointed out.
The turnover ceremony was attended by Jamindan Municipal Mayor Donnah Valdemar and representatives from the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) and the DSWD’s Field Office 6 – Western Visayas.
The SLP is a capability-building program that seeks to improve program participants’ socio-economic status via two different tracks: the Micro-enterprise Development (MD) Track which is designed for those who want to start a sustainable micro-enterprise; and the Employment Facilitation (EF) Track which assists participants to land jobs that align with their skills and competencies.
The SLP is one of the DSWD’s core development initiatives which helps provide livelihood opportunities to qualified vulnerable and disadvantaged sectors in Philippine society. (AKDL)
