DSWD’s Pag-abot Program to provide livelihood aid to relocated families in Bulacan

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will continue supporting the 49 Pag-abot Program beneficiary families with livelihood assistance as they begin a new chapter in their new homes in San Ildefonso, Bulacan on Wednesday (September 30).

In a simple turnover ceremony led by DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, the first batch of 49 beneficiary-families each received a Certificate of Eligibility for Lot Allocation from the National Housing Authority (NHA).

Gagawin kaagad ’yon. Magkakaroon din ng sustainable livelihood… meron na tayong programa para naman simulan na yung tulong naman sa pangkabuhayan,” Secretary Gatchalian told the former tunnel residents from Malate, Manila.

The relocated families used to reside in a tunnel underneath Osmena Highway situated in Barangays 738 and 800 in the City of Manila where they had been living in unsafe conditions for decades.

The DSWD chief said the relocation was a joint effort of the DSWD and NHA, pursuant to the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., to provide families with safer and more dignified living conditions.

DSWD Field Office (FO) 3 – Central Luzon Regional Director (RD) Venus Rebuldela likewise assured the families that the Department will continue monitoring their situation and provide interventions to help them build sustainable livelihoods in their new community.

San Ildefonso Mayor Fernando Galvez Jr. also recognized the DSWD’s role in facilitating the relocation, expressing appreciation for the Department’s support to the beneficiary families as they transition to their new community.

(CC)
