Nearly 12,000 individuals in street situation reached out by DSWD’s Pag-abot Program
Through sustained reach out operations, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to move individuals and families away from the dangers of street life and toward safer, more stable living conditions under its Pag-abot Program.
To date, the DSWD’s Pag-abot team has been able to reach out to 11,551 individuals and families in street situations since the program started in 2023.
From this number, 10,473 have already been successfully reintegrated into their home communities, while 587 have been admitted to the Pag-abot processing centers and the DSWD-managed Centers and Residential Care Facilities (CRCFs) for further assessment and intervention.
Implemented across Metro Manila and various regions nationwide, the Pag-abot program focuses on encouraging people in street situations and guiding them back to their communities with appropriate social services and long-term support.
Sectoral data show that the DSWD’s assistance had covered 1,312 children, 2,025 individuals, and 8,214 families in street situations, reflecting the breadth of the program’s reach among the most vulnerable sectors.
The Pag-abot Program serves as a convergence platform that brings together immediate reach out, case management, and long-term recovery services with the goal of helping former families and individuals in street situations (FISS) rebuild their lives away from the risks of the streets.
Beneficiaries are supported in many ways that include helping them return to their hometowns or communities, access social protection programs, and secure opportunities for sustainable livelihoods and family recovery.
“Dito po sa Pag-abot Program, malinaw ang direksyon ng DSWD at ito ay ilayo ang mga nasa lansangan sa panganib at tulungan na makamit ang mas maayos na buhay. Hindi lang ito basta reach out, kundi ang tuloy-tuloy na suporta para makapag-simula ulit ng may dignidad at pag-asa ang mga nasa lansangan,” Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao, the DSWD spokesperson, said on Tuesday (January 20).
Asst. Secretary Dumlao emphasized that public cooperation remains crucial in ensuring timely intervention for those in street situations.
“Kapag may nakitang bata, indibidwal, o pamilya sa lansangan, mahalaga ang agarang pag-report. Isang mensahe o tawag lang, malaking tulong na para sa amin kasi mabilis naming mailalapit ang serbisyo ng gobyerno at syempre makakapag- provide tayo ng nararapat na tulong,” Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao said.
The DSWD encourages the public to report cases of children, individuals, and families in street situation by sending a message to the official DSWD Facebook page, calling the Pag-abot Program hotline at 8-931-9141 from Monday to Friday, or sending an email to pagabotprogram@dswd.gov.ph. (KI)
