No need for proof of indigency to avail of disaster relief assistance – DSWD spox

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reiterated that disaster-affected families are not required to present proof of indigency to access humanitarian aid during calamities and emergencies.

“Hindi po nangangailangan ng certificate of indigency para sa mga humanitarian assistance and disaster response efforts po natin,” Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD’s Disaster Response and Management Group (DRMG) said in an interview with DZJV on Tuesday (August 25).

Asst. Secretary Dumlao clarified that, as the primary responders to disasters, local government units (LGUs) are tasked with identifying and evaluating the number of disaster-affected individuals within their jurisdictions.

The DSWD, in turn, is mandated to provide support to affected LGUs by providing augmentation and technical assistance to handle emergencies or calamities.

“Kung matatandaan natin, ang local government units ang frontline in service delivery, sila nga po yung nangunguna na nagbibigay ng tulong sa kanila pong mga nasasakupan na naapektuhan ng mga iba’t ibang mga kalamidad kaya mahalaga na mayroon po silang datos [ng] bilang ng mga apektadong pamilya para matukoy natin kung ano yung tulong, sino yung mga tutulungan,” the DSWD spokesperson said.

As of press time, the Department has extended over Php1.2 billion worth of humanitarian aid to communities affected by the combined effects of the enhanced southwest monsoon or habagat and tropical cyclones (TCs) Luis, Maymay, and Neneng.

“Ito pong [tulong] ay kinabibilangan ng mahigit 1.9 million na mga family food packs. Idagdag din po natin diyan yung mga ready-to-eat food boxes, non-food items, at yung tulong pinansyal na nagkakahalaga na rin po nang mahigit Php14.4 million na naipaabot sa mga lubhang naapektuhan na mga pamilya,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao said.

As instructed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the DSWD will continue to ensure that families affected by the recent weather disturbances receive the necessary assistance and support.

“Kami po sa DSWD, we will continue to collaborate and work with the affected LGUs para matukoy pa natin yung karagdagang assistance, and of course, agaran nating masuportahan yung mga kababayan po natin,” the DSWD spokesperson said. (AKDL)

The DSWD is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. The DSWD only has access to/collect information that you voluntarily give us via the modules of this website or other direct contact from you. Information collected may be used as a basis for client response regarding services or intervention that may be provided by the DSWD. The DSWD takes precautions to protect information. Upon submission of sensitive information via the website, information is protected both online and offline. Wherever the Department collects sensitive information (such as passport and Birth Certificates), that information is encrypted and transmitted to the DSWD in a secure manner. This may be verified by looking for a lock icon in the address bar and looking for "https" at the beginning of the address of the web page. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, certificate printing or customer service) are granted access to personally identifiable information. The computers/servers, where personally identifiable information is stored, are kept in a secure environment.
