Over 10,500 individuals in street situation reached-out by DSWD’s Pag-abot Program
The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Pag-abot Program has reached out a total of 10,570 vulnerable families and individuals in street situations (FISS) nationwide, marking a significant milestone in the government’s continuing efforts to protect street dwellers and guide them toward a safer and more stable living conditions.
Secretary Irene Dumlao, the DSWD spokesperson, said on Monday (December 15).
To date, the Pag-abot Program was able to assist 1,296 children in street situations (CISS),
1,894 individuals in street situations (IISS), and 7,380 families in street situations (FISS). They were reached out through sustained and well-coordinated daily field operations by Pag-abot teams.
Through the Pag-abot Program, beneficiaries are provided with comprehensive interventions such as shelter in transitional facilities, referrals to DSWD residential care centers, transportation assistance for individuals and families returning to home provinces, and livelihood packages aimed at reducing the risk of returning to street life.
Secretary Dumlao said.
Amid the holiday season, the DSWD has expected an increase in the incidence of street
begging and vagrancy, underscoring the importance of proactive interventions to protect the vulnerable sectors, especially children, from abuse, exploitation, and other risks associated with street living.
Secretary Dumlao pointed out.
The department continues to encourage public participation in safeguarding at-risk individuals and families. Reports and referrals may be submitted through the DSWD Pag-abot Program Facebook page, via hotline 8-931-9141 from Mondays to Fridays, or through email at pagabotprogram@dswd.gov.ph.
The DSWD spokesperson said the department remains committed to the FISS by facilitating reintegration into their communities of origin, providing appropriate social protection services, and pushing for long-term solutions that prevent a return to life on the streets. (KI)
