DSWD brings social protection services closer to OFWs in Croatia

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) extended psychosocial support and social protection services to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Croatia through the Marcos Administration’s ‘Serbisyo Caravan Handog ng Pangulo: Serbisyong Sapat para sa Lahat.’

Spearheaded by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), the four-day Serbisyo Caravan was held on September 23 and 24 at the Franciscan Clericate, Put Iza Nove Bolnice in Split, and on September 26 and 27 at Matija Gubec International School in Zagreb.

DSWD Asst. Secretary for Protective Programs Ada Colico said the activity brought together various Philippine government agencies to provide accessible frontline services, information, and assistance to Filipinos working and residing in Croatia.

“Through the initiative, DSWD social workers provided psychological first aid (PFA) to OFWs in Croatia, offering them a safe and supportive space where they could share their concerns, receive immediate psychosocial support, and gain a better understanding of available government assistance and when to seek further intervention,” Asst. Secretary Colico said on Tuesday (September 29).

The DSWD team conducted individual assessments and consultations to determine the needs of OFWs and identify those who may qualify for appropriate programs and services.

Among the interventions offered to the OFWs were Solo Parent assistance, the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), Minors Traveling Abroad (MTA) services, and the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program.

“Through the DSWD’s participation in the activity, we are reinforcing the commitment of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to bring closer the programs and services of the government even beyond the Philippine borders. By listening to the concerns of OFWs, we have provided clear and relevant information, and helped link them to appropriate and accessible interventions for their social, psychosocial, and economic needs,” Asst. Secretary Colico said.

The DSWD also conducted the pilot implementation of the Solo Parent Unified ID System to streamline the delivery of services and assistance to OFWs whose families in the Philippines are headed by a solo parent.

Joining Asst. Secretary Colico in the caravan were DSWD Field Office (FO) MIMAROPA Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Princess Vagilidad, Ms. Beverly Jane Pace of the SLP, and Ms. Miramelinda Leuterio of the Protective Services Division.

The Serbisyo Caravan Handog ng Pangulo: Serbisyong Sapat para sa Lahat is a convergence platform where Philippine government agencies work together to bring essential services, information, and assistance closer to Filipinos abroad. (AKDL)
