Walang Gutom Kitchens in cities of Pasay, Cebu & Zamboanga open for volunteers, donors

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is encouraging volunteers and donors to continue supporting its expanded Walang Gutom Kitchen (WGK) operations in Pasay City for Luzon, Cebu City for the Visayas and Zamboanga City for Mindanao.

The WGK is a facility designed to provide vulnerable individuals experiencing hunger with free daily access to hot meals for breakfast and lunch.

Beneficiaries of the program are guaranteed delicious and healthy meals packed with Go, Grow, and Glow foods to effectively combat involuntary hunger.

“We are inviting everyone to share their time and effort in our kitchens located in the cities of Pasay, Cebu, and Zamboanga because this is a collective fight against hunger,” Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao, who is DSWD spokesperson, said on Monday (July 13).

The DSWD kitchen’s nationwide expansion is in response to the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to ensure that no Filipino family will experience involuntary hunger.

“Following the strict orders of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to end involuntary hunger, ginagawa namin sa DSWD ang lahat para malabanan itong kagutuman sa bansa. Sisiguraduhin namin na lahat ay welcome sa Walang Gutom Kitchen, basta nakararanas ng kagutuman,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao pointed out.

Aside from the one based in Pasay City, the DSWD is also operating a Walang Gutom Kitchen in Cebu City located at Pier 4 OKK Square Unit, and another similar facility at the FGL Building in Zamboanga City.

“Para mapalawak ang naaabot ng ating programa, siniguro namin na mayroong Walang Gutom Kitchen sa Luzon, VIsayas, at Mindanao kaya naman nagtayo ang DSWD ng facility sa Cebu City at Zamboanga City na parehong operational mula 6 am hanggang 3pm,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao said.

Individuals, as well as groups from private sectors, civic organizations, schools, national government agencies (NGAs) and local government units (LGUs) who are interested to do volunteer work can sign up by providing their details through the online form available at https://forms.gle/dVnewCCWbPyTbud16.

“Gaya po ng sinasabi ng ating Secretary, Secretary Rex Gatchalian, nangangailangan ng isang whole-of-society approach upang matugunan ang kagutuman. Dito po sa Walang Gutom Kitchen, malaking bahagi po ang mga volunteers natin at mga donors sa pagpapatakbo ng nasabing pasilidad. Kaya’t welcome po ang mga donors at mga volunteers sa ating Kitchen,” the DSWD spokesperson said.

The DSWD is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. The DSWD only has access to/collect information that you voluntarily give us via the modules of this website or other direct contact from you. Information collected may be used as a basis for client response regarding services or intervention that may be provided by the DSWD. Information will not be shared with any third party outside of the Government, other than as necessary to fulfill the requested services of a client. The DSWD takes precautions to protect information. Upon submission of sensitive information via the website, information is protected both online and offline. Wherever the Department collects sensitive information (such as passport and Birth Certificates), that information is encrypted and transmitted to the DSWD in a secure manner. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, certificate printing or customer service) are granted access to personally identifiable information. The computers/servers, where personally identifiable information is stored, are kept in a secure environment.
