DSWD opens application for Government Internship Program

May 16, 2025

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is set to accept applications for the nationwide Government Internship Program (GIP) from May 19 to 21, a senior agency official said on Friday (May 16).

Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, the DSWD spokesperson, said the GIP is one of the components of the Kabataan 2000 program initiated by the Philippine government, which aims to offer young individuals an opportunity to gain hands-on experience within various government agencies.

“This is an opportunity for college students to learn life skills in the workplace and at the same time earn money to defray their school expenses,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao said.

A total of 75 slots will be available for each DSWD Field Office (FO) while 35 slots will be accommodated in the Central Office in Batasan Road, Quezon City.

The GIP application is open to college students from ages 18 to 25, preferably incoming 3rd and 4th year students for the coming school year.

The applicant’s monthly family income shall not be above the Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) latest regional poverty threshold.

Each individual that will be selected for GIP will receive a stipend equivalent to 75% of the November 2022 regional minimum wage, in exchange for 30 working days of service rendered.

According to the DSWD spokesperson, the program will be implemented during the summer school break to enable students to use their available time in a productive manner.

“GIP participants assigned to the DSWD Central Office will engage in tasks such as administrative works, recording and tracking of incoming and outgoing documents, liaising with other bureaus or offices, photocopying of documents and encoding of reports, among others,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao said.

Those stationed at the FOs will support the operations of the DSWD’s regional counterparts.

From 2017 to 2024, close to 8,000 college students have benefited from the initiative which provided them with practical exposure and a deeper understanding of public service.

Applicants who want to be deployed to the DSWD Central Office are encouraged to communicate with Verlan Rosales, youth program focal person of the Sectoral Programs Division of the DSWD’s Protective Services Bureau (PSB), through email at vtrosales@dswd.gov.ph or may apply directly through this link
