Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian on Tuesday (June 17) joins persons with disabilities, who are beneficiaries of the agency’s Persons with Disabilities Electric Transportation Services (PWD-ETS) project, for a test run of their electric bus along Batasan Hills in Quezon City.

The PWD-ETS is a pilot project under the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) that aims to provide livelihood grants to persons with disabilities, who are members of SLP associations, to purchase electric vehicles that have disability-friendly features such as low-floor designs, ramps, wider aisles, designated spaces for wheelchairs, and CCTVs.

Also joining Secretary Gatchalian and the persons with disabilities were DSWD spokesperson Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao, Director Miramel Garcia-Laxa of the SLP National Program Management Office, and Global Electric Transport (GET) Philippines Incorporated President Freddie Tinga.

GET Philippines is the chosen partner of the SLPAs as the service provider for the e-buses. (AKDL)
