In continuation of the efforts to promote restorative justice for children in conflict with the law (CICLs), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will lead the inauguration and blessing of the first Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY) exclusively for girls on Friday (June 20) in the municipality of Consolacion, Cebu.
Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao, the DSWD’s spokesperson, said the new RRCY is necessary to create a separate gender-sensitive facility to help in the rehabilitation and reintegration of girls in conflict with the law.
“Young women and girls face distinct challenges that are different from their male counterparts. These include higher vulnerability to trauma, abuse, and societal stigma. To address these concerns, the DSWD and its attached agency , the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC); the Department of Justice (DOJ),; and the Province of Cebu established a new center to provide a safe, nurturing, and healing space for girls in conflict with the law,” the DSWD spokesperson explained
The facility will provide dormitories, therapy rooms, activity areas, and other targeted services that are designed to empower the center’s female residents.
The unveiling of the new facility will be attended by representatives from the Provincial Government of Cebu, municipality of Consolacion, Cebu, the Supreme Court of the Philippines, Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation (JPIC), and the JJWC. (AKDL).
