On orders of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian, the Field Office – MIMAROPA is sending an additional 2,000 boxes of family food packs (FFPs) to the flood-affected municipality of Mamburao in Occidental Mindoro as residents continue to recover from the onslaught of the successive weather systems that hit the country in the past days.
Following the request of Mamburao Mayor Glicerio “EK” Almero III for augmentation support, DSWD’s MIMAROPA Regional Director Reynaldo Reynoso said the agency has initially allocated a total of 3,500 boxes of FFPs for the affected residents.
Of this number, 3,220 food packs have already been delivered, while the balance of 280 boxes—plus the additional 2,000 FFPs that brings the total to 5,500– are scheduled for pick-up and delivery on Monday (July 28).
“Yes, Secretary, we are releasing an additional 2,000 FFPs for Mamburao as agreed with Mayor Almero. We are in constant coordination with the local government of Mamburao to ensure that no one is left behind in this critical time,” Director Reynoso said in a text message to the DSWD chief.
Director Reynoso also told Secretary Gatchalian that the MIMAROPA Regional Office remains committed to delivering prompt and compassionate service to all communities affected by calamities.
Earlier today, the FO-MIMAROPA’s Disaster Response team also met with Mayor Almero to finalize the delivery plans.
Based on the latest report from the Field Office, a total of 3,156 families in the municipality of Mamburao have been affected by the floods, with some 30,000 families affected by the weather systems and the southwest monsoon in the entire province of Occidental Mindoro.
“Our priority is to make sure that families affected by the disasters receive immediate and sufficient aid in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr that no one will go hungry in times of calamities,” Director Reynoso said. (YADP)
