As the lead agency in the country’s disaster response efforts, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is pleased with the result of the latest Pulse Asia Ulat ng Bayan Survey indicating that 58 percent of Filipinos agree that the government’s response after a disaster is timely.
The nationwide survey was conducted from June 17 to 24 using face-to-face interviews based on the response of 1,200 participants from 18 years old and above.
DSWD Asst. Secretary for Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) Irene Dumlao attributed the favorable approval rating to its consistent coordination with local government units (LGUs) and other concerned national government agencies (NGAs) during calamities and disaster.
“Through the DSWD’s Buong Bansa Handa program, we have strategically prepositioned and ensured the availability of goods even before a disaster strikes a certain area,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao, who is also the agency spokesperson, said.
Asst. Secretary Dumlao said the prepositioning of relief supplies is part of the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr to bring government assistance to communities for faster response.
“We are pleased that the result of this strategy of prepositioning relief supplies is felt by our kababayans. Rest assured that we will continue our ‘maagap at mapagkalingang serbisyo’,” the DSWD spokesperson said.
The Pulse Asia survey report also showed that the DSWD tied with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Health (DOH) with the highest performance rating garnering 74 percent among other national government agencies.
The result was based on the response of 2,400 adult participants nationwide from June 17 to 24.
“We remain grateful for the trust and confidence given to us by the public. This high rating serves as a proof that our efforts to continuously improve the delivery of programs and services are appreciated by the Filipino people,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao said.
To sustain this positive rating, the DSWD official said the agency will continue to strengthen its collaboration with LGUs, other national government agencies, and development partners to continuously deliver the best quality social welfare and development programs for the Filipino people. #
