DSWD inks agreement with Marawi City LGU to help children in “torils”

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian and Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra signed on Tuesday (June 3) a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) formalizing the implementation of “Project Riayah.” The new project aims to provide social protection services to orphaned, abandoned, neglected, and poor children under the care of torils in Marawi City. Torils are private educational institutions that provide Qur’an memorization, Arabic language learning, and/or instruction on Islamic values and laws within a residential setting. DSWD provides psychosocial aid to trafficked minors rescued in Pangasinan

As the lead agency in the country’s disaster response efforts, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is pleased with the result of the latest Pulse Asia Ulat ng Bayan Survey indicating that 58 percent of Filipinos agree that the government’s response after a disaster is timely.
