Caloocan City Mayor Dale “Along” Malapitan lauded and thanked the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for its immediate assistance to flood-affected residents who are now in various evacuation centers in the city.

“Sa ngayon naman ay sapat naman po [ang relief supplies] pero talagang parami pa rin nang parami ang dumarating sa evacuation centers natin at nagpapasalamat po tayo sa DSWD dahil agad na po na sila ang kumontak sa amin para magbigay ng karagdagang tulong para sa mga nasa evacuation centers natin at doon sa mga biktima ng baha,” Mayor Malapitan said, expressing gratitude for the DSWD’s timely coordination and support.

In response to the continuous heavy rains that submerged parts of Metro Manila, the DSWD has, so far, provided Php215,314 worth of assistance to families and individuals affected by flooding in Caloocan City alone.

Across the National Capital Region (NCR), the total aid distributed has reached Php4 million.

Based on the latest Disaster Response Operations Management, Information, and Communication (DROMIC) report, 10,565 families in the NCR have been affected by the flooding, with 7,696 families currently taking shelter in various evacuation centers.

Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD’s Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG), who is also the agency spokesperson, said the Department continues to coordinate with local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila and other affected regions to ensure that family food packs (FFPs) and other relief items immediately reach those in need.

“As soon as we received reports of widespread flooding, our field offices activated their disaster response protocols and coordinated immediately with LGUs. Our priority is to make sure no family is left behind in evacuation centers as directed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao said. (YADP)
