The Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), an attached agency of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), presents to reporters the revised Guide for Media Practitioners on the Reporting and Coverage of Children during the DSWD Thursday Media Forum on May 22 at the Central Office’s New Press Center in Quezon City.
CWC Undersecretary Angelo Tapales said the guide aims to assist the Media in reporting children-related contents fairly and in promoting children’s rights and welfare while exercising press freedom.
The guide includes practical tips and self-assessment questions based on five key principles: upholding children’s right to privacy; respecting the child’s agency; encouraging meaningful participation; ensuring dignified treatment; and handling stories with sensitivity.
The guide covers both traditional media and new media platforms; media practitioners, content creators, and social media personalities as well as children in need of special protection (CNSPs).
This Thursday’s Media Forum, which was aired over the DSWD Facebook page, was hosted by Special Assistant to the Secretary (SAS) for Communications Raymond Robert Burgos and Director Monica Shayne Ann Purugganan of the Public Relations Service (PRS). (YADP)
