The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Field Office-Cordillera Administrative Region (FO-CAR) has swiftly provided assistance to the bereaved families of the three miners who died from a landslide in Itogon, Benguet on June 23.

The FO-CAR is also processing the medical assistance for the lone survivor who is now recuperating in a hospital.

“Ang DSWD ay nakikiramay sa mga pamilya ng tatlong minero na nasawi sa landslide sa Itogon. Sa utos ni Secretary Rex Gatchalian, agad na nagpahatid na ng tulong ang FO-CAR sa mga pamilya ng nasawi at handa po kaming magbahagi pa ng tulong kung kinakailangan,” Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao of the DSWD Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) said on Tuesday (June 24).

A report from FO-CAR Regional Director Maria Malaya Aplaten said the bereaved families of the two miners were provided with Php10,000 each.

The remains of the third fatality is at a funeral parlor in Itogon with the Field Office covering the funeral expenses. The miner’s relatives are also being located, according to RD Aplaten.

“Nais po naming paalalahanan ang ating mga kababayan na naninirahan sa mga hazard-prone areas na mag-ingat at makinig sa mga abiso ng inyong mga lokal na opisyal lalo pa ngayon na patuloy na nakararanas ng malakas na pag-ulan sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng ating bansa,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao, who is also DSWD spokesperson, said. (AKDL)
