Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian and Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra signed on Tuesday (June 3) a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) formalizing the implementation of “Project Riayah.”

The new project aims to provide social protection services to orphaned, abandoned, neglected, and poor children under the care of torils in Marawi City.

Torils are private educational institutions that provide Qur’an memorization, Arabic language learning, and/or instruction on Islamic values and laws within a residential setting.

Also present to witness the MOA signing at the DSWD Central Office were Undersecretary Fatima Aliah Dimaporo of the DSWD Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs; incoming Marawi City Mayor Shariff Zain Gandamra; and officials from the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF). # (AKDL)
