The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Sunday (July 27) thanked Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief. Gen. Nicolas Torre III for donating to the DSWD the more than Php16 million proceeds from the “Boxing for a Cause: Laban sa Nasalanta” at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.
“We thank Gen. Torre and the PNP for donating to the DSWD the more than Php16 million that came from the proceeds of the boxing match. The huge amount of donation will go a long way in terms of assistance to millions of our fellow Filipinos who were affected by the habagat and other weather disturbances,” Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao, the DSWD’s spokesperson said.
The PNP collected over P300,000 worth of entrance fee and donations amounting to more than P16 million from the “Boxing for a Cause” which Gen. Torre won by default. The amount will be turned over to the DSWD this week.
The DSWD’s total amount of assistance extended to families and individuals hit by the successive weather systems in the country has reached Php293M as of Friday (July 26.) #
