The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Field Office (FO) 7-Central Visayas continues to coordinate with the local government unit (LGU) of Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu for any assistance that the FO may extend to the families that were affected by two fire incidents in Barangays Canjulao and Basak on Friday (May 30).
“The DSWD 7 maintains its close coordination with concerned offices in the city to gather further information about the two incidents,” Central Visayas Regional Director Shalaine Marie Lucero reported to Undersecretary Diana Rose Cajipe of the Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG).
The regional director also reported that the fire incident in Canjulao has affected 36 families or 161 individuals while the Basak fire prompted 170 families or 315 individuals to seek temporary shelter in an evacuation center set up by the LGU. The evacuees were served lunch by the LGU.
“Currently, social workers from the city government are conducting profiling of the affected families, after which, family food packs will be distributed to the evacuees,” Director Lucero said.
As additional aid to the affected families, they will be referred to the FO’s Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) for the provision of Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) based on the assessment of social workers, according to the regional director. (MBM)
