Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Erwin T. Tulfo led the distribution of government assistance to members of the vulnerable sectors in Tacloban City on October 20.

Joined by Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, Secretary Tulfo handed financial assistance, family food packs, and hygiene kits to senior citizens, farmers, solo parents, youth, and persons with disabilities, through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS).

Some 700 individuals composed of persons with disabilities, solo parents, and indigent youth received P5,000 each, while more than 800 seniors were given P5,600 each.  Likewise, a total of 1,000 farmers were provided with family food packs and hygiene kits.

“Sinabi po sa akin ni Pangulong Marcos na dahil ikaw ang Secretary ng DSWD, ikaw ang in-charge sa mga mahihirap.  Gusto kong asikasuhin mo sila habang nandirito tayo sa puwesto.  Sabi ko po, ako na po ang bahala sa kanila (The President told me that because you are the DSWD Secretary, you will be in charge of the poor. I want you to take care of them while we are in the position. I told him that I will do that), the Secretary shared.

Secretary Tulfo also expressed gratitude to Mayor Romualdez and other participating agencies for providing their counterpart financial assistance and other services to the beneficiaries. ###
