Personnel of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VII interview locals displaced by a fire incident in Sitio Sto. Niño, Barangay Quiot, Cebu City.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its Field Office (FO) VII, has already reached out to the local government unit (LGU) of Cebu City for the provision of additional resources to assist families affected by a fire incident in Sitio Sto. Niño, Barangay Quiot on July 7.

According to the report of DSWD FO VII, 91 families or 356 individuals were displaced by the fire and are currently staying at the Quiot Elementary School.

The Cebu City Government provided initial assistance to the affected families in the form of hot meals and other relief items. Under Republic Act 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010, the LGUs are the first responders during disasters and emergencies.

Meanwhile, DSWD FO VII is now preparing for requested aid such as family food packs, hygiene kits, and sleeping kits for the displaced locals.

The Department will also continue to monitor the situation of the affected families, in coordination with the concerned LGU to immediately address their needs. ###
