The Department of Social Welfare and Development said that P10.94 million worth of relief assistance consisting of food and non-food items have been provided to families affected by flooding and torrential rains.

Based on DSWD data, a total of 460,273 families composed of 2.11 million persons coming from NCR and Regions I, III, IV-A and B and VI have been affected.

DSWD social workers joined President Benigno S. Aquino III during a visit today in evacuation centers in Nangka, Marikina, Bagong Silangan, Quezon City and Bagong Poblacion, Malabon where he led  the distribution of relief goods.  As of August 9, some 630 evacuation centers remain open in the affected regions providing temporary shelter to 66,577 families.

In NCR, 44, 645 families are still staying in 359 evacuation centers in 260 barangays. Some 18,222 family packs, 2,110 blankets and 600 mattresses have been distributed to the evacuees. Community kitchens were also set-up at evacuation centers in Kalawaan Elementary School, Pasig City, in Mandaluyong Elementary School, D’place Building, and Mandaluyong City Gymnasium, Mandaluyong City, in H. Bautista Elementary School and Sto. Nino Elementary School, Marikina City where evacuees are being served with hot meals.

Meanwhile, 176 volunteers have already responded to the call of DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman for volunteers to repack relief goods at the National Resource Operations Center (NROC) in Pasay City. ###
