The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Central Office (CO) recently obtained 100% compliance with the Energy Efficiency Conservation (EEC) measure and programs of the Department of Energy (DOE) during the spot check conducted last May 2, 2022.

Republic Act 11285 or the EEC Act aims to institutionalize energy efficiency and conservation, enhance the efficient use of energy, and grant incentives to energy efficiency and conservation projects.

During the spot check, the DOE Representatives examined and assessed the lights, air-conditioning units, light-emitting diode (LED) lamps, and elevator among other facilities of the DSWD CO. They also checked the electricity and energy-saving measures as well as the fuel-saving measures being implemented by the Department.

Meanwhile, the DSWD CO was also found compliant with the requirements of the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP), a government-wide program to reduce the government’s monthly consumption of electricity and petroleum products through electricity efficiency and conservation, and efficiency and conservation of fuel use of government vehicles, among others. The program also aims for all government offices to reduce their electricity and fuel consumption by 10%.

The DSWD will continue to support the government’s initiative in promoting and encouraging the utilization and development of efficient renewable energy systems and technology to ensure optimal use and sustainability of the country’s energy resources. ###
