DSWD helps bereaved family of ‘rider’ who died in Marikina payout

May 1, 2025

The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Field Office (FO) National Capital Region (NCR) expressed condolences and provided cash aid to the grieving family of Engin, a delivery rider who died during a payout in Marikina City last April 28.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of the client who only wanted to provide for his family’s needs. The untimely passing of a loved one is truly a distressing experience for anyone, and the Department will see to it that the family of the client will receive all the necessary interventions in their time of need,” DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, the agency’s spokesperson, said on Thursday (May 1).

On April 30, social workers of the DSWD-NCR visited the wake of the client and provided Php50,000 in burial assistance.

DSWD NCR Regional Director ( RD) Michael Joseph Lorico also offered to endorse the common-law partner of the client to the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) of Marikina City for registration as a solo parent since the partner was now left alone to care for their two children.

The Department will also refer the common-law partner to the DSWD Ina Healing Center for psychosocial support and the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) for employment facilitation.

DSWD Field Office NCR social workers will continue to reach out to the family to determine other needed interventions as they go through this difficult period, according to RD Lorico.
