Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rolando Joselito D. Bautista signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with City Government of Butuan Mayor Ronnie Vicente Lagnada for the construction of the Mindanao Disaster Resource Center (MDRC) on March 22.

The Agreement highlighted the establishment of a new disaster resource center which can store a total of 100,000 food and non-food items. The proposed MDRC will be strategically located in Butuan City which is geographically ideal to handle land, sea, and air travel.

The MOA signing was part of the 71st Anniversary Celebration of the DSWD Field Office CARAGA. It was attended by DSWD Undersecretary Luzviminda Ilagan and Regional Director Ramel Jamen.

The Department believes that the establishment of the new MDRC will enhance the disaster response system of the country, especially since it will be able to cater the whole Mindanao region and nearby areas in Visayas.

The DSWD also has the Visayas Disaster Resource Center based in Mandaue City, Cebu and the National Resource Operations Center in the National Capital Region. ###
