Amid the continuous rains and heavy flooding brought by Typhoon Karding, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Virginia “Gee” N. Orogo, went around evacuation centers in Metro Manila today to check on the status of the evacuees and to discuss the ongoing disaster operations with local government officials.
Joining Sec. Orogo were DSWD Undersecretary Hope Hervilla, Disaster Response Management Bureau (DREMB) Director Rodolfo Encabo, and National Response and Logistics Management Service (NRLMS ) Director Fernando De Villa.
Trucks carrying 3,100 family food packs and 673 sleeping mats from the DSWD arrived this morning in Marikina City. An additional 1,000 family food packs will be delivered in the city anytime today.
Based on the 2 pm report of DSWD-Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) some 532,066 families or 2,231,101 persons from 1,835 barangays in Regions I, III, VI, CAR, NCR, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA have been affected by the heavy rains that started yesterday.
A total of 10,528 families or 43,694 persons inside 98 evacuation centers set up by LGUs in the affected regions.
As of press times, ₱105,999,704.09 worth of assistance has been provided to the affected families; ₱72,437,893.68 of which came from DSWD, ₱31,834,055.41 came from the LGUs, ₱884,105 was from the NGOs while ₱843,650 came from other contributing parties.
“Patuloy ang aming pakikipag-ugnayan sa mga lokal na opisyal ng mga apektadong lugar. Hinihiling din namin ang kooperasyon ng bawa’t isa upang mapabilis ang pagsasagawa ng relief operations (We continue to coordinate with the local officials of the affected cities/municipalities. We are requesting for everyone’s cooperation to speed-up the relief operations),” Sec. Orogo said.
Meanwhile, DSWD reiterates its call for volunteers at DSWD National Resource Operations Center (NROC) in Pasay City who will help in the repacking of relief goods for the disaster response operations this rainy season.
