Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Erwin T. Tulfo, on Thursday, September 15, led the turnover ceremony of community projects under the Kapit-Bisig Laban Sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) and the distribution of cash assistance under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) in Pilar, Bohol.

Secretary Tulfo unveiled the three 2-classroom buildings in Barangay Estaca, Barangay Lundag, and Barangay Catagdaan, and an isolation facility in Barangay Población in the Municipality of Pilar.

Amounting to a total of PHP 7.5 million, the three 2-classroom buildings are products of the efforts of the community volunteers in the Municipality of Pilar with a goal to address the educational needs of the students in the area.

Meanwhile, the one-story isolation facility with amenities and medical tools and equipment is part of the COVID-19 Response efforts of the Department.

KALAHI-CIDSS is a program that uses a community-driven development strategy to ensure people-centered development by providing assistance, capacity-building, and implementation support to poverty-disadvantaged and disaster-affected municipalities. Through the program, community members actively participate to identify and prioritize their community’s problems and allow them to design, implement, and manage solutions to their priority problems

After the turnover, the Secretary headed to Carmen town to personally distribute cash assistance under the SLP of the Department to some 144 beneficiaries in the municipality.

To help micro and small enterprise owners, the DSWD provides assistance to eligible low-income families or those from the informal sector whose livelihoods were affected by the pandemic and the implementation of community quarantines.

Accompanying the Secretary during the visit were Undersecretary for Social Welfare and Development Sally Navarro, Undersecretary for Operations Group Jerico Francis Javier, Assistant Secretary for Office of the Secretary Concerns Irene Dumlao, Assistant Secretary for Specialized Programs under Operations Group Florentino Y. Loyola Jr., Pilar, Bohol Mayor Wilson Pajo, and Carmen, Bohol Mayor Conchita Toribio-De Los Reyes. ###
