Despite the lifting of all Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals around the country, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) continues to extend aid to families affected by Typhoon Ferdie specifically in the Northern Luzon area where the onslaught of the typhoon was mostly experienced.

Based on the 11PM September 14 report provided by the DSWD Disaster Response Operations Monitoring Information Center (DROMIC) and the DSWD Virtual Operations Center, 421 families or 1,604 persons have been displaced in Regions I and II. A family of four persons is temporary staying in an evacuation center in Basco Batanes, while 420 families or 1,600 persons  have sought temporary shelter in their relatives’ houses.

The DSWD National Resource Operations Office (NROO) is already on standby and awaiting clearance from authorities to load and airlift 20,000 pieces of brown rice bars, 5,000 pieces of malong cloths and 600 family food packs  to Basco, Batanes via C130 plane.

DSWD Secretary Judy M. Taguiwalo reminds the public to stay vigilant since Typhoon Gener is still within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

“Ipinapaalala po namin sa publiko na manatiling handa sa anumang maaaring epekto ng bagyo. Patuloy po sana kayong makipagtulungan sa mga ahensya ng gobyerno upang maagap nating matugunan ang pangangailangan ng lahat (We remind the public to be mindful of the possible effects of the typhoon. We expect everyone to continue to cooperate with government agencies so we can immediately respond to everyone’s needs),” Sec. Taguiwalo said.

The DSWD maintains its close coordination with local government units (LGUs) for possible augmentation support and other needed assistance. ###
