The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) vows to continue doing its excellent public service and pays tribute to its partners for actively helping the Department’s successful implementation of various social welfare and development programs and services in the country.

The department bared this as a commitment to its partners in development during its 62nd anniversary with the theme, “Sama-samang Husay Tungo sa Tagumpay,” held from January 28 to February 1, 2013 at the DSWD central office.

The week-long celebration that highlighted by the “Pagkilala sa Natatanging Kontribusyon sa Bayan” or “PaNata Ko sa Bayan” Award recognizes the significant and meaningful contributions of the DSWD partners and stakeholders in providing successful social protection programs to marginalized and vulnerable sectors of the country.

“The PaNata awards is our way of expressing our gratitude and appreciation to the non-government organizations (NGOs), local government units (LGUs), media, donor-resource agencies, as well as international development partners of the department,” Social Welfare and Development Secretary Dinky Soliman said.

This year’s PaNata awardees were: Municipality of Javier, Leyte and Provincial Government of Bohol for the Gawad Paglilingkod sa Sambayanan (GAPAS) Award; Province of Leyte for the Gawad sa Makabagong Teknolohiya for introducing the biometric system for the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.

On the other hand, the Gawad Ulat awardees were: Cynthia Balana of the Philippine Daily Inquirer; Evelyn Macairan of the Philippine STAR; Bernadette Tamayo of the People’s Journal/Tonight; and Mia Gonzales and Mr. Marvyn Benaning of the Business Mirror for Most DSWD-Friendly Beat Reporters.  Other recipients of the Gawad Ulat’s Supportive Newspapers were Philippine Daily Inquirer, Manila Bulletin, The Philippine STAR, and BusinessMirror.

UNTV Radyo La Verdad was recognized as the Most Supportive Radio Station and TV 5, the Most Supportive TV Station.

Several organizations were bestowed with the Salamat Po Awards, namely: Friendship Home Father Luis Amigo as Best Non-Government Organization (NGO); PhilSeven Foundation, Inc., as Best Volunteer; and Nurture the Children Foundation of Pampanga, Inc. as the Best Corporate Institution.

Nine (9) development partners were also given special recognition during the PaNata awards, namely: Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID); Asian Development Bank (ADB); The World Bank; United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF); Millennium Challenge Corporation of the United States of America; World Food Programme (WFP); Millennium Challenge Account Philippines; Agencia Española de Cooperacion para el Desarollo (AECID); and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). ###
