The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), together with partner-agencies, on Friday (March 22) held a Solidarity Walk for the 2024 National Women’s Month Celebration along Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City to highlight and show support for gender equality and women empowerment.

“Ngayong buwan ng Marso ay ginugunita natin ang Buwan ng mga Kababaihan na siyang nagsisilbing paalala sa atin na ang mga kababaihan ay mga importanteng indibidwal sa ating lipunan at bansa. Kung wala sila ay maraming bagay ang hindi maisasakatuparan mula sa larangan ng agham, medisina, politika, sports, serbisyong militar, at marami pang iba,” DSWD Program Management Bureau (PMB) Director Edmon Monteverde said in his opening remarks, emphasizing the vital role of women to nation-building.

(This Month of March, we observe Women’s Month which serves as a reminder to us that women are important individuals in our society and in our country. Without them, many things would not be accomplished from the fields of science, medicine, politics, sports, and military service, among others.)

Dir. Monteverde assured participants that the DSWD will continue to collaborate with other organizations, and strengthen its policies and mechanisms to help women in the grassroots and other vulnerable sectors.

“Ang DSWD ay patuloy na maglalaan ng programa, serbisyo, at oras sa mga polisiya at aktibidad na siyang magpapanalo sa karapatan ng mga kababaihan patungo sa kanilang kalakasan at kapakanan,” he said.

(The DSWD will continue to allot programs, services, and time for the development of policies and activities that will uphold the rights of women towards their empowerment and welfare.)

Around 100 participants from the DSWD, Commission on Audit (COA), National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA), Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) National Capital Region (NCR) Chapter, Men Opposed To Violence Everywhere (MOVE) NCR Chapter, Quezon City local government unit, persons with disabilities, and other community members joined the event.

After the walk, a forum on women empowerment was held at Serbisyong Bayan Park featuring speakers from MOVE-COA Chapter, MOVE NCR Chapter, KALIPI NCR Chapter, and the NCDA.

The Solidarity Walk is part of DSWD’s commitment to promote women’s rights and development.

The activity was also aimed at raising public awareness on the importance of the 2024 NWMC, with the sub-theme, “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas; Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan!” #
